A great pair of painted metal bookends in the form of owls.  I understand that this design is by Marianna Brandt who was a leading designer in the Bauhaus movement in Germany.  These are in great condition, one is a slightly lighter colour than the other, may have been in sunlight.  Both show wear commensurate with age and use.  Both are marked with the "Ruppel" manufacturers stamp, one is only now visible in outline form
