Mexican Silver Bird Brooch - Rafael Melendez

Early mexican silver bird brooch marked with the makers mark for Rafael Melendez (1911-1980). I believe that Rafael started out in the workshop of William Spratling but in 1932 he set up his own work shop. Quite a primitive design made out of 980 silver which also indicates it’s an earlier piece. Not sure what the stone is in the centre. Pin is good and secure.
